Nothing spoils a fun day out faster than annoying, itchy insect bites. Although there are over-the-counter medication and creams that can help provide some relief, they are not always suitable for everybody, such as pregnant women, and those with sensitive skin who want to avoid unnecessary chemicals. Fortunately, there is an alternative that’s not only chemical-free, but it also provides fast and effective relief from bites or stings.

I’m one of those unfortunate people who seems to attract the unwanted attention of mosquitos everywhere I go. Sometimes I react badly to them and the skin around the bites can become inflamed, hot to the touch, and extremely itchy. So when I was asked to try the Welcare Insect Bite Healer which is suitable for mozzies, bees, ants, wasps, fleas, bed bugs and more, it was a no-brainer. If there is a way to quickly and effectively provide relief from those insatiable mosquitos, I want in!

How the Welcare Insect Bite Healer Works

The Welcare Insect Bit Healer is a compact and portable, drug-free device that uses heat therapy to reduce itching, pain and swelling associated with insect bites and stings. It features a ceramic plate at one end that you apply to the affected area and then choose one of two temperature settings. The first one is designed for people with sensitive skin and children over 3-years-old and heats up to 47°C, whilst the other, meant for adults, heats to 50 °C. These heat settings are not hot enough to cause burns but are sufficient to deactivate certain proteins that are introduced by insect bites. Once you’ve selected the appropriate setting, the device applies heat to the area for 6 seconds. The targeted heat treatment breaks down the histamines that the body releases as part of the immune response, thereby alleviating the itching and swelling.

Sound too good to be true? Look, I’ll admit that I was a little sceptical that this little device would be able to deliver on its promise to provide the kind of fast and effective relief I was looking for. But I was very pleasantly surprised!

I love that the Welcare Insect Bite Healer provides immediate non-chemical relief, negating the need for creams, antihistamines or steroid-based treatments, making it suitable for people with allergies or sensitive skin, pregnant women, and children. Its also small and light enough to carry with you on the go. I’ll be packing it in my carry-on luggage when we travel overseas later this month. In fact, I’m going to order some more before we go so my teens can keep one in their room, and I’ll no doubt rave about it to anyone that so much as looks at me sideways around the hotel pool! It has completely exceeded my expectations, and I have no qualms about recommending it. They really are a must have for your summer first aid kit.

Always read the label and follow the instructions for use.

Welcare Insect Bite Healers are available to buy directly from Welcare (RRP $41.95), outdoor retailers and pharmacies.
