Boy Asks Mum to Make Him a Special Friendship Shirt to Fight Bullying at School
A young boy from Georgia in the US is planning to go to his first day of school in a very bright, orange t-shirt with large green lettering on the front with the simple but delightful anti-bullying message “I will be your friend”.
And it was all six-year-old Blake Rajahn’s own idea.
After starting her own personalisation business Unfading Adornments a couple of months ago, Blake’s mother, Nikki, told him that she would make any kind of shirt he wanted for the first day.
Nikki said, “I told him that as a back to school gift, I will make him any shirt he would like. It could have anything – a basketball theme, football, whatever. He thought a while and said, ‘Will you please make me a shirt that says ‘I will be your friend’ for all the kids who need a friend to know that I am here for them?”
According to his mother, Blake has experienced bullying and hard times at school in the past and simply wants other children to know he’s there for them.
Blake says, “I want to make sure that kids that are bullied know they have a friend already.”
Nikki says she has already sold several other shirts like Blake’s after her Facebook post went viral.
Her son hopes that “more and more people find friends” on their first day with the help of the shirts.
In the days since sharing her photo of Blake in his flattering new orange and green shirt on Facebook, her post has gone viral with over 8,000 likes, 4,400 shares and hundreds of comments.
“What a blessing and what a difference he will make,” one user said.
“If only adults could try this,” another agreed.
How wonderful! We hope that Blake enjoys his first day back at school and makes a whole class full of new best friends, inspiring others to do the same in the process.
