Boy From Viral Magpie Swooping Video Returns To Face His Fears!
A young boy who became an internet sensation thanks to a magpie swooping video has returned to conquer his fears!
Max Sherwood, 10 and his dad Wayne were happily riding their bikes near their Shellharbour home in NSW when they were viciously attacked by a swooping magpie.
Wayne captured the horrifying incident on his phone showing young Max screaming as the bird swooped on him trying to nip his head and shoulders. He captioned the utterly Australian video with: Australia is beautiful but our native birds are killers. They’ll eat your kids alive. Beware hahah
The duo became instant internet celebrities and spoke to morning show Sunrise about the encounter with the territorial bird.
“Just when I start going down, the magpie started swooping me and I was just screaming as loud as I can,” the 10 year old said.
Viewers needn’t worry, because even though it looks like the magpie made contact with Max, he assures us he wasn’t hurt in the slightest.
Wayne posted the video to Instagram on Tuesday where it quickly amassed thousands of views. He says he had no idea it would become so popular.
“I thought maybe six or seven people might find it interesting, or something like that, but no, I didn’t think it would end up like this,” he said.
Although Max looked totally freaked out in the first video, he decided to head back to the same spot and face his fears. The pair filmed themselves starting back up at the top of the hill and riding past the magpie on their bikes.
The second video was captioned with: Part 2 killer magpies “FOR THE CAT LOVER HATER” here’s the marshmallows HEKTIC haha ? this LITTLE legend is Dirt Bike Max… ?? @mx_maxp31
“I hear it,” Max says as he anticipates the magpie’s swoop. The video shows father and son laughing hysterically as the magpie swoops into view behind them, hitting Wayne many times before once again attacking Max.
Wayne posted the new video to Instagram, praising his son for “conquering his demons”. Commenters were quick to congratulate the boy saying that being swooped by a magpie was a “rite of passage” in Australia.
“It’s right if passage living in Australia. That dad survived it once as now so has his kid,” one person wrote.
“Being attacked by a magpie is a rite of passage for Australian children. This is character building! The person filming did a great job in letting that kid learn to deal with adversity,’ another said.
While one person claimed it was the “funniest thing I’ve seen this month”.
