Mum Accused Of Starving Her Daughter After Sharing Lunchbox Contents!

Mum Accused Of Starving Her Daughter After Sharing Lunchbox Contents!

A mum casually mentioned to a friend recently what her daughter’s lunchbox contained and was instantly met with utter shock.

The friend accused the mum of starving her eight year old daughter after she revealed the contents of her school lunch box. Sharing her story on Mumsnet as foodFood, the UK woman wrote exactly what her daughter eats at school and was quick to insist she is a healthy height and weight.

“I’ve just been told by a visiting friend I’m basically starving her when she saw her lunch!” she said. Here’s what the lunchbox included:

• 1 mini pita

• 6 mini bread sticks

• Dessert spoon of hummus

• Dessert spoon of guacamole

• 6 big strawberries cut up

• A frozen yoghurt tube.

“That’s fine isn’t it? For breakfast she had a bowl of plain yoghurt and loads of berries,” the mum wrote.

“She will most likely have an afternoon snack usually cheese or a piece of fruit and dinner is normally casserole/fish pie/jacket potato and soup or similar. She has milk before bed.

“She’s fine! Always has small snacks/lunches and doesn’t complain of hunger. Friend was aghast and said her kids at 18 months old ate more than that. (She) looked horrified.”

Without actually seeing her daughter or knowing what her daily activities consist of, it’s really hard to judge if that is in fact too little food.

Other commenters on Mumsnet agreed with the mum’s friend and said there was no way the eight year old could be full after such a small amount of food.

One mum said: “My 7- and 9-year-old would still be ravenous after that!” while another commented: “My toddler would starve on that!”

“That is a tiny amount, especially if your DD (dear daughter) is active. I’m pretty sure my 11-month-old would demolish that without a problem.”

“I was eating adult portions at 8 years old.”

Many supported the mum though and told her that perhaps her friend should stop interfering in business that doesn’t concern her.

“Every child has different appetites. As long as they’re happy, full and not hungry then what’s the harm. Ignore your friend,” one woman said.

While another added: “I think many people feed their children too much and justify it by saying their kids can’t cope with less when it’s really that they’ve been taught to expect more.”

And finally, one follower stated that perhaps she just wasn’t exerting lots of energy thus didn’t need a lot of food: “Plenty of food. She’s not hiking in the in the Arctic and she’s had breakfast and will get dinner.”

What are your thoughts? Do you have an eight year old who eats a similar amount of food to this child?

  1. I have 2 fussy eaters. My 13 year old now eats alot but when he was younger I was lucky to get any food into him. He eventually got a bigger appetite.
My 2 year old in day will have a few bottles of full cream milk, 2 pieces of vegimite toast, up n go, banana and yogurt, half an Apple, crackers, a couple bottles of water, Mac n cheese. This is through out the day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But it all depends on the individual child and their day. People are always so quick to judge. So to anyone who doesnt like what I feed my child, I say to you, who has 2 thumbs and doesnt give a shit.
