Teacher Slammed for Taking Advantage of Girl’s Kindness Towards Special Needs Kids

Teacher Slammed for Taking Advantage of Girl’s Kindness Towards Special Needs Kids

A concerned mum has shared details of a confrontation at her daughter’s school after hearing that her child was bullied into taking care of a group of special needs students at a school excursion to the zoo, preventing her from spending the day with her friends.

The girl, who is just ten years old, came home from the special end of year excursion in tears and explained that her teacher grouped her with three special needs children “because she is so good with them” and told her that she was not allowed to spend time with her friends, implying that she would be a bully for not helping.

Sharing her story to the Reddit Parenting sub, the mum writes:

Absolutely furious with the teacher and upset for her distraught daughter, the mum arranged a meeting with the principal, teacher, head of special needs and guidance counsellor the following school day. The update to her original post made many people’s blood boil as the teacher not only defended her actions, but admitted that she had planned to do the exact same thing for the next excursion later that week, brazenly adding that she refuses to make any changes to the groups!

Daughter helping special needs boy backfiring? UPDATE!!!!!! from r/Parenting

The mum handled that absolutely superbly, don’t you think?

But this part, this part is pure gold:

“I told the teacher, my daughter is 10 years old. She’s not an aide, she’s not a teacher, she’s not a behaviour therapist. SHE’S A CHILD. It’s great she’s nice to him, and includes him, but she should NOT be suffering socially and academically, and she should NOT BE ACCUSED OF BULLYING OR EXCLUSION because you (the teacher) don’t want to do your job or calm this boy down.

Bravo, mama. What a wonderful advocate you were for your daughter. We hope you and your family enjoy your day at the zoo. And shame on that teacher for taking advantage of your sweet daughter’s kindness in this way.
