Teenager Sues Parents Over Photos They Posted On Facebook
You may want to rethink all those photos you upload to Facebook of your children without their permission- especially the countless baby ones. We’ve all been guilty of sharing images of our baby’s first bath or nap time or even their visit to the doctors.
Not much thought has been given to how these babies will feel about their image being shared across the internet without their knowledge or permission once they grow up.
We now have a case where that ‘baby’ has grown up and isn’t happy about her parents sharing photos of her as a child.
The 18-year-old woman from Austria says that her parents since 2009 have posted over 500 photos of her on Facebook and she now wants to sue them. The teenager has requested her parents take down the photos which show her doing everything from lying naked in bed to being toilet trained. But sadly to no avail.
Her father says he has the right to keep the photos up as they are a nice memento of her upbringing. “It’s a nice family album that’s been well received by our Facebook friends,” he says.
The daughter doesn’t agree. “They knew no shame. Every stage was photographed and then made public,” she said.
The family is set to appear in court in November in the first case of its kind in Austria. The lawyer for the teenager says if they can prove the images have damaged her and impacted her personal life in some way, she could very well win the case.
