The Story of How Social Media Helped This Little Girl’s Fairy Tale Come True Is Simply Awesome
Last week we brought you the story of how Twitter helped the mother of a little girl with autism find her a replacement of her most favourite dress which had long since been discontinued. Now we have an equally inspiring story to share that also shows the genuinely good side of the internet.
This is the delightful story of how a cupboard, social media, and some kindness helped give three-year-old Rachel an adventure where everybody lived happily ever after.
Rachels’ mum Sarah recounted her little daughter’s simply awesome adventure over on Twitter, and we can’t help but be just as enchanted as her little girl clearly is.
Here’s a tale about how a cupboard and social media made actual magic happen for my three year old daughter, Rachel. (Thread) #fairystory

Every morning on our walk to nursery my three year old asks me what this little three foot door is for and I had no answers for her. Then one day I told her fairies lived there. Oh my life. An obsession was born. #fairystory pic.twitter.com/KXkmTzOSOB

Every day since, she’s asked if she can visit the fairies. Here is is asking for the gazillioneth time. I had to tell her fairies are terribly shy and don’t like visitors. But that didn’t deter her. #fairystory pic.twitter.com/28I3vwnyIa

So last week I asked my friends on Facebook if I should knock on the house this little door belongs to and ask if I could have access to it to leave a note from the fairies and some fairy dust. #fairystory Full post here: https://t.co/hsNyRiyFyr

The general consensus was I should knock and ask. But I felt a total dick, so instead I shared my post on a local community Facebook group #fairystory

A lovely lady called Susie then messaged me to say she knew the mum of the lady who lives in the house with the fairy door and she was going to go and talk to her! #fairystory

The mum went to ask her daughter, Julie, if we could have access to the door. Then she went back to Susie #fairystory
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
In the meantime I decided we’d write a letter to the Queen of the Fairies and ask if we could visit. If Julie said we couldn’t (which would be totally fair enough!) I could send a letter back to Rachel from the Queen letting her down gently. #fairystory

So we wrote the letter (using lots of fairy stickers, naturally) #fairystory pic.twitter.com/cUCeEG5EZW
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
And posted it the next day #fairystory pic.twitter.com/yMjlM3UG2D

(My mum was concerned it wouldn’t arrive anywhere but I said I was sure @RoyalMail could find Fairland ? )

I also tried to prepare Rachel for the possibility that we wouldn’t be able to visit the fairies. But her reaction when I said “what if they say no?” Was heartbreaking! pic.twitter.com/LQ4lvGeFwn

Then, Susie messaged me with Julie’s phone number and a message that she would do anything we need to get access to the door. Operation Fairy was on! #fairystory
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
I managed to have a chat with Julie on the phone and she could not have been kinder about it. We arranged for me to go and set up a little fairy dell behind the door #fairystory
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
So I crocheted some little fairy bunting and gathered together some other bits and pieces to put in the fairy dell #fairystory
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
On Sunday night I went to the fairy door to set up the dell. When I opened it I found this! Julie and her husband Paul had already cleaned it out and added little slices of tree stump, tree bark and some pretty flowers. How gorgeous is that! #fairystory pic.twitter.com/fLfy4BIEmA
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
I added all my bits and pieces – some fairy dolls and their pets a hedgehog, squirrel and frog. Some bunting. Some fairy wings and wand, and a letter to Rachel from the Queen of the Fairies #fairystory pic.twitter.com/47UqeucGKl
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
I added a padlock to the door too #fairystory pic.twitter.com/FOSkMd8KnT

This morning, we walked to nursery as normal@ as we approached the door I realised Susie, the lady who put me in touch with the owner, was waiting across the road phone in hand. She’d come to take photos of us opening the door! #fairystory
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
Which meant I could concentrate on Rachel rather than trying to juggle my phone to take pictures. (Susie is one of my new favourite people) #fairystory
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
We got to the door and Rachel noticed the lock. I told her the Fairy Queen had sent me the key and we could open it up. #fairystory pic.twitter.com/5AeZYWysiT
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
She was totally blown away! She wanted to go into Fairyland so off she went #fairystory pic.twitter.com/cNaL0Fj6bw
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
We opened the letter from the Queen of the Fairies #fairystory pic.twitter.com/qrh6EN26yQ
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
Which said the fairies are moving to our garden (so we wouldn’t bother Julie and Paul any more!) #fairystory pic.twitter.com/CTVgcVMU0o
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
She collected her little fairy dolls and their pets #fairystory pic.twitter.com/B0VSeNpe5J
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
And put on her fairy wings #fairystory pic.twitter.com/tdUeixyeTq
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
And collected her wand #fairystory pic.twitter.com/Y8knhuK90N
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
Then went to nursery and was SO excited to tell her friends about her visit to the fairies #fairystory
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
I went and met Julie, the owner of the house to say thank you very much for letting us use her cupboard. And the lovely Susie sent me all the photos. #fairystory
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
Then tonight, Rachel discovered the fairies had moved into our garden #fairystory pic.twitter.com/4BWNsnYW7t
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
And that is the tale of how a cupboard and social media made magic happen for my three year old daughter, Rachel (end of thread) #fairystory pic.twitter.com/O7guashHPB
— Sarah Stimson (@GoooRooo) July 15, 2019
The lengths that everyone involved went to to ensure that little Rachel’s fairy tale dream came true is just so terribly sweet! And we love that the fairies decided to move to a more convenient location so as not to disturb these wonderfully kind strangers any further.
Just beautiful! We hope it has brightened your day as much as it has ours!
