Twins Born ‘A Year’ Apart In San Diego
Twins born just minutes apart have two very different birth dates. One has a birthday in 2015 and the other in 2016.
Jaelyn Valenica was born New Year’s Eve at 11.59pm. Her twin brother, Luis Valencia Jr., arrived at 12.01am on New Year’s Day.
The babies were due at the end of January but doctors at San Diego Medical Center called the mother, 22-year-old Maribel Valencia, in because one was in a breech position.
The father, Luis Valencia was over the moon with their New Year’s blessing and was looking forward to taking them home.
“I was not really expecting two, so it’s a big blessing to have two of them, boy and a girl for New Years,” Mr Valencia said.
He said doctor’s called them in on Thursday afternoon and they had to deliver the twins as soon as possible.
“It was around midnight and she (Jaelyn) was just popping out, it was crazy seeing her little head pop out first,” Mr Valencia said.
Jaelyn weighed 4 pounds, 15 ounces, while Luis weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces. The two new additions join their three-year-old sister Isabella.
What a new year’s blessing indeed!
