Woman Goes To Hospital With Abdominal Pains And Leaves With Twins Just Months after Giving Birth To Her Son!

A 20 year old woman took herself to the emergency room with abdominal pains only to discover she was about to give birth to twins!

What makes this story even more remarkable is that the Bangladeshi local had only given birth to her baby boy just 26 days ago! Fast forward to March 22 and she amazingly delivers a baby boy and girl through caesarean section.

Arifa Sultana gave birth to a baby boy in February according to Dr Sheila Podar, a gynecologist at Ad-Din hospital in Dhaka.

When she presented at the hospital a month later she complained of severe pain, never imagining she was pregnant!

“She came to the hospital complaining of lower abdominal pain,” Poddar told local media.

When staff at the hospital performed an ultrasound they soon realised she was carrying twins. It wasn’t picked up during her first birth as she was never given an ultrasound. The young mum has a condition called uterus didelphys which basically means she has two uteruses.

A uterus didelphys is a rare congenital abnormality, and the occurrence of twin gestation has an overall incidence rate of 1 in a million, according to the National Institutes of Health.

She was told her first baby boy was conceived and grew in a different womb to her twins.

“It’s a rare incident. I have seen such a case for the first time. I had not even heard about such an incident before,” Poddar said.

What a remarkable story! Reports say the (rather shocked) mum and her new brood of 3 are doing well!
