Origin Hybrid Mattress Review: The World’s First Weightless Sleep Mattress
I can remember thinking in my twenties that I was tired after an 8-hour shift at work. Now, in my thirties with a new baby, I would give anything to experience that level of tiredness. Truly, nothing can prepare you for the kind of bone-aching tiredness that comes from being at the beck and call of a tiny human at all hours of the day and night. It’s like feeling permanently jet-lagged and you find yourself doing crazy things like shrieking to your husband that you think you’ve lost your phone…while you are talking into it! (Come on, it can’t just be me who does this?) Anyway, the point that I’m getting to (slowly) is that I’m at a time in my life when sleep couldn’t be more important or more precious. Literally every second counts! So, when I was recently given the opportunity to review the Origin Hybrid mattress it really couldn’t have come at a better time. Would I like to experience the world’s first ‘weightless’ mattress? Abso-freaking-lutely!
Let me start by saying that if you are sceptical about a mattress that arrives vacuum-packed in a box, don’t be! You’ll be amazed how it expands and springs into shape once it’s released. I was blown away by how lovely and thick the mattress is – it really is amazing quality.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the brand, Origin combines world-class German engineering with the latest sleep science and mattress technology. The Origin Hybrid Mattress was developed in the Origin Sleep Lab over a 2-year period, and combines latex, memory foam and precision springs – and has won over 30 design awards. After sleeping on this mattress for the past month, it’s easy to see why. I can’t even begin to tell you how comfortable it is. One of the things I’ve really noticed is that if I bring my daughter into the bed to feed her in the night, my moving around doesn’t wake my husband, thanks to the way it’s designed to minimise motion transfer. Likewise, my husband moves around a lot in his sleep which used to drive me crazy. As a light-sleeper anyway, every time he’d shift positions, he’d wake me up when we slept on our old mattress, but since sleeping on the Origin mattress this hasn’t been an issue at all.
Another significant thing I’ve noticed since making the switch to the Origin Hybrid Mattress is that I’m not waking up with back pain. Ever since my daughter was born, I’ve suffered on and off with back ache, likely from the strain of pregnancy. According to the Origin website, the mattress is designed to melt all pressure away, conform perfectly to your body and keep you at the best temperature for the ultimate weightless sleep – and that has definitely been my experience. Although my daughter still wakes me in the night for a feed, I feel like the sleep that I do get is better quality and I’m able to function better during the day.
The Verdict
Let me put it this way, the old mattress we had before will NOT be coming back! Ordinarily my husband prefers a firm mattress whereas my preference is for a softer one. Somehow the Origin mattress is perfect for both of us. We honestly couldn’t be happier with it.
I also personally love that the company contributes to the planet too. Not only are their mattresses made with special eco-friendly blends, they will also plant a tree for every mattress sold in 2022. Also, any mattresses that are returned as part of their 120 days trial, are donated to Australia’s Salvation Army instead of going into landfill.
Did I say 120 day trial? Yep, I sure did. The Origin Hybrid mattress comes with a 100% money back guarantee if you aren’t happy with it during the first 120 days. You can even return it for free too.
Each mattress comes with a 15 year warranty too, so it really is a great investment in great sleep!
