Joyce Jacobs passes away at 91
I loved “A Country Practice” and watched it religiously like everyone else in Australia did. I cried and was very sad when Molly died and of course I had my favourite characters. One of them was Esme Watson played by Joyce Jacobs. She played the town gossip and although many thought she was meddling, she was well loved by the other characters including the audience.
In a News Ltd article I learned that Joyce Jacobs has died at the age of 91. Jacobs had also been suffering with Parkinson’s disease during the last ten years.
Did you watch “A Country Practice” as a kid? Or even an adult? Did you take the sad news of this great actor to heart? I know I do when I hear such news. It makes me remember watching them on the telly and certain episodes from the show.
Lorrrae Desmond, and Brian Wenzel have been saddened by the news and speak highly of Jacobs’s generous spirit. Desmond, has mentioned that Jacobs never recovered from the loss of her husband of 64 years. Fancy being married to someone for 64 years, what a great relationship they must have had. I hope to have that with my husband also.
Jacobs was born on the 15th of April 1922 in Surrey, England. According to the Sydney Morning Herald article Jacobs did not start acting until 1962 when she moved to Australia.
Joyce Jacobs is fondly remembered for her role as Esme Watston in “A Country Practice” but she has also been in many other successful shows; Number 96, The Young Doctors, GP, and All Saints to name a few.
Jacobs passed away on Sunday the 15th of September at her home at Taren Point. I’m sure that all fans out there, like myself would send love to Joyce Jacobs friends and family.
I am ex career girl (well still a career girl, but not in the office and getting paid), I have worked for the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), News Ltd.’s, CareerOne.com.au as a producer and lots more.
I am a mother to four year old identical twin girls, who keep me very busy. On top of looking after the girls, I have finished a master’s degree in project management and keen to graduate, I blog on my blog “Mummy to Twins”, I attempt to keep the house clean and tidy, and I try to fit in some me time as well.
