Mum Asked To Pay For Smashed Perfume Bottle Dropped By Daughter
If you’re looking after friend’s four year old child and they accidentally smash a bottle of very expensive designer perfume should you have to pay to replace it?
One woman found herself in this exact predicament when she agreed to babysit her best friend’s four year old daughter for the afternoon. The babysitting took place at her friend’s house so her daughter felt at home and comfortable in her own surroundings.
All was going well until the woman heard a ‘crash’ coming from the bathroom. When she went to see what happened she saw the little girl standing amongst a smashed bottle of Chanel perfume, the $200 kind!
It seems the curious child loved the look of the bottle and wanted to take a closer look- which is when it slid out of her hands and into the bathroom tiles. Now the child’s mother is demanding her friend pay for the damages. Even though it was her OWN child that broke the bottle.
Her argument is that her daughter wasn’t being properly supervised which led to the accident occurring. The woman has refused to pay the $200 saying it’s not her fault the expensive perfume was left on the counter within easy reach of a child.
So she’s not offering to pay a single cent! Commenters on Reddit agreed with the woman with most saying it’s just bad luck and happens when there are kids around.
One person though said that the woman should have at least offered something to her friend as a sign of good will.
What do you think? What would you have done?
