Mum Causes Stir Online By Admitting She Lets Toddler Drink Coffee
A mum caused controversy recently online after admitting she buys her toddler his own coffee. Revealing the news in a TikTok clip titled “some things I do that others don’t agree with,” she instantly faced backlash. What do you think?
During the 22-second clip on TikTok, the Texas mum told viewers that she lets her children eat sand, play with marbles and drink coffee. The last admission didn’t sit well with commenters who couldn’t believe their ears.
The video of her son drinking coffee featured a voice over by Mara with the caption “let my kids drink coffee”.
Commenters took to the comments section to let Mara know exactly why they thought coffee wasn’t suitable for toddlers. “I see so many parents talk proudly about how they parent their kids,” one person wrote. “It’s none of my business but coffee just isn’t good.”
“I agree with everything but the coffee,” another said. “You know it’s a stimulant. Just don’t do it.”
“Coffee isn’t healthy for adults let alone children,” added one concerned parent.
“I can’t even handle coffee,” said another.
Mara felt the need to respond to the comments with another video where she addressed people’s concerns.
“He loves coffee!” she wrote. “It’s his fav! I don’t know why so many people are upset because I said Indy drinks coffee,” she says in a voice over.
“I mean, don’t you drink coffee everyday?”
The mum goes on to justify her decision by saying they “went to the best place in town,” which roasts its own beans, to get her son’s coconut latte.
“I mean how can I tell him no to coffee?” she says in the video. “Look how cute his little face is.”
People responded to her follow up video with a variety of comments.
“He can choose to drink coffee as an adult when he can rationally make his own decisions,” one person wrote. “He doesn’t know the effects of coffee to decide that.”
“Getting him addicted? Super cute,” another said. Most were concerned that caffeine could stunt brain development and growth.
Some however sided with Mara and believed she should be able to do whatever she wants with her own kid.
“It’s a myth that it’s bad for kids,” one person wrote.
“Big deal, I grew up drinking coffee,” another added.
“It’s no worse than caffeine in soda,” said one. “Let her parent her own kid,” another added.
