Baby Sprinkles: How Aussie Parents Are Celebrating Their Second (or Third!) Baby in Style

Baby showers are a cherished tradition for first-time parents, with themed cupcakes, matching decorations, and all the fuss that makes it feel like a big event. But what happens when it’s baby number two or three—and you already have a pram, a cot, and a drawer full of wraps?
That’s where baby sprinkles come in.
This growing trend in Australia is a more relaxed, low-key celebration that still honours the arrival of a new little one—without the overwhelm (or the wish list). And more Aussie parents are loving it.
Why Aussie Families Are Choosing Sprinkles Over Showers
By the time a second (or third!) baby comes along, many of the big-ticket items are already sorted. What parents often want most is support, love, and a little moment to celebrate with their closest friends and family.
Sprinkles are typically smaller, more casual gatherings—often hosted in the backyard or at a local park under the gum trees. No need for a big venue or a full event planner. Just add a few picnic rugs, a grazing platter, and some balloons from Kmart or Big W, and you’re sorted.
No Rules—Just Real Moments
There’s no one way to throw a baby sprinkle. You can skip the games, ditch the printed invites, and instead focus on what really matters: connection, conversation, and celebrating the joy of new life.
That said, themes can still make things a bit easier when it comes to planning and decorating. Since sprinkles are more casual than baby showers, a theme isn’t necessary, but it can make decorating easier. Popular themes include farm animals, jungle animals, and monkeys, but my favourite is to seize on the word ‘Sprinkles. Think cakes dotted with colourful 100s and 1000s, sprinkle-filled party bags, and bright, cheerful décor from Spotlight or your local party shop.
What to Bring? Think Practical and Personal
Because there’s often no gift registry, sprinkle gifts tend to be thoughtful and useful: nappies, wipes, baby wraps, or even a voucher for meal delivery services like HelloFresh or Marley Spoon (a lifesaver during those early newborn weeks).
For warmer months, baby swimwear or a UV-protective pram cover is perfect for Aussie summers. And in winter, a Bonds grow suit or a gift card from The Iconic Baby section never goes astray.
Because Every Baby Deserves to Be Celebrated
Whether it’s your second baby or your fifth, welcoming a new child into the family is always a special moment. A sprinkle doesn’t have to be extravagant—it just needs to feel warm, relaxed, and filled with love. And if that includes a few cupcakes covered in colourful sprinkles? Even better.
