Department Store Harvey Nichols uses 100-year-old model
Ageism is a thing of the past according to department store Harvey Nichols. In our youth obsessed fashion industry, the department store is breaking the mould by running an ad featuring an 100 year old model. The commercial has been shot to celebrate the centenary of Vogue magazine.
The model is a lady named Bo Gilbert, who was born in 1916.
It is the first time that Vogue, which celebrates it’s 100th anniversary in June, has run an ad featuring a 100 year-old model.
Harvey Nichols said that the ad aims to challenge ageism in the fashion industry.
“Vogue’s 100th anniversary seemed like such an important moment, so we wanted to celebrate it by doing something symbolic,” said Ben Tollett, executive creative director at Harvey Nichols’ ad agency adam&eveDDB.
“We’re really proud to be involved in a project which proves the older generation can be fearlessly stylish too. Ageism is so last century.”
The beautiful commercial (below) highlights the notion that fashion and style certainly don’t have an expiry date. Gilbert talks us through how she gets ready for the day and lets us know that she always dresses for herself- not the boys! Love it – you go girl!
