Easy Potato Bake Recipe (Family Favourite Comfort Food)
There’s nothing quite like a creamy, cheesy potato bake coming out of the oven —golden on top, bubbling at the edges and smelling like comfort itself. This easy potato bake is one of the classic family dishes that never goes out of style. It’s simple, hearty and always a hit with both kids and grown-ups alike.
Perfect as a side for your Sunday roast or even as a meal on its own, this version uses just a handful of ingredients and no fancy steps – exactly the way family recipes should be.

Ingredients
4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
300 ml thickened cream
4 slices of bacon, chopped
1 onion, finely chopped
1 cup grated cheese (tasty or cheddar work perfectly)
Salt and pepper to season

Method
Start by preheating your oven to 180°C fan forced and lightly greasing an ovenproof baking dish.
Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in an even layer along the bottom. Scatter over half of the bacon and onion, then pour over the cream and sprinkle with half the cheese. Season well with salt and pepper.
Now repeat with the remaining ingredients — the rest of the potatoes, bacon, onion, cream and cheese — to form your second layer.
Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 40 minutes, until the potatoes are just tender.
Them, remove the foil and bake for another 20 minutes, or until the top turns beautifully golden and bubbly.

Tips for the Perfect Potato Bake
If you’d like extra flavour you can:
Add a sprinkle of garlic powder or fresh herbs between the layers.
Use a mix of mozzarella and cheddar for a gooey, stretchy top
Try sweet potatoes for a twist that’s just as delicious.
