Daring to Dream
In the little country town where I live there is a gorgeous little shop that you could easily lose yourself in.
Aunties Place is a maze of rooms, each lined wall to wall, and top to toe with trinkets and treasures.
Each time you visit you notice something wonderful that you somehow managed to miss the time before.
Occasionally I like to go in and just wander around, with no other purpose than to soak up some of the warmth and loveliness of its atmosphere.
In amongst all of this, one day, something caught my eye.
It was only something small, but as soon as I saw it I felt an instant connection and knew I had to take it home with me.
As I drove home I began to wonder why I had felt so compelled to buy it. I knew Hubbster would take one look at it and scoff “But what’s it for? What’s the point of it?”
I have always loved to write. I have done it on a daily basis ever since I can remember, whether in a journal, or in letters to friends or…and that is when it hit me like a wet mackerel around the chops.
I have stopped writing stories. I have stopped dipping into my imagination and sharing the magic that I find there.
Somehow I have let my dream of becoming a children’s author slip by the wayside. Dishearted by failing to find a publisher for the stories I wrote about the Outback Witch, I realise now, that I stopped dreaming the dream. I stopped reaching for the goal which had lit the fires in my heart for so long. I simply stopped writing stories for children…and I didn’t even realise it until I held this little typewriter in my hand.
So – you see this useless trinket has a very important purpose.
Inside I have placed a note to myself – a confirmation of my dream.
I have placed it on my window sill so that I see it first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
The typewriter is my visual reminder everyday to turn my back on fear of failure and dare to dream my dream once more.
It may very well be the best $3 I have ever spent!
Do you have a dream that you have forgotten to dream, a goal that you have pushed by the wayside without even realising it?
