7 Face Masks To Make Using Ingredients From Your Kitchen!
Who knew making your own face mask was this easy! We’ve put together 7 of our favourites that use ingredients like avocado, honey, oatmeal and even chocolate. All items you probably have sitting in your pantry as we speak. So what are you waiting for? Start mixing!
The Avocado Mask
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- 1 teaspoon plain organic yogurt
- 1 teaspoon of honey
This mask is super moisturising and contains all the good fats from avocados and vitamins such as E and C which are important for healthy skin. Mash the avocado until it’s soft and then mix in the yogurt and honey until it forms a smooth paste. Apply to your face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Then simply wash off and admire your plump skin.
The Egg White Mask
- 1 egg whites
- 1 teaspoon of orange juice
- 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
Egg white proteins work well in reducing the appearance of pores as well as helping to fade sun spots and pigmentation. Whisk the eeg whites with the orange juice (vitamin C) and turmeric, for brightening effect. This concoction will help even out your skin tone and give your a smoother looking complexion. Be warned though – turmeric can stain so keep it away from bench tops and your fave Tshirt. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes and wash off with water once it’s dried.
The Honey Mask
- 2 tablespoons of pure honey
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 wedge of fresh lemon
Mix the warmed up honey with the cinnamon and lemon in a small bowl. This mask uses cinnamon to calm down redness as well as reduce oily skin. Lemon acid not only helps exfoliate your skin, but can minimize the appearance of dark spots too. Gently massage the mixture onto your face and leave on for about 15-20 minutes, then rinse off.
The Brown Sugar Scrub Mask
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
Brown sugar is an amazing exfoliant! Use equal parts brown sugar and coconut oil to form a quick scrub, apply it on your face in gentle circular motions, let it sink in for a few minutes and wash it off with warm water. Do not rub too hard on the skin as it could cause irritation.
The Oatmeal Mask
- 2 tablespoons of raw oats
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1/2 of a banana
Oats are a natural soother and exfoliator when applied to the skin. Mash up the oats with a ripe banana to form a paste. Honey acts as a binder as well as containing anti-bacterial properties to help soothe irritated skin.
The Milk Mask
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons of nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons of milk
For acne prone skin, the milk mask is perfection. Honey is known to kill bacteria and prevent future breakouts while the nutmeg acts as a gentle exfoliator that’s great for sensitive skin. Let it sit on your skin for 10-15 minutes before rinsing and then follow up with your favorite moisturiser.
The Chocolate Mask
- 1/2 cup of cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons of oats
- 4 tablespoons of cream
- 1/4 cup of honey
Dark chocolate is an anti ageing ingredient which can be used topically and orally. It can perk up your mood and give you a boost of antioxidants when consumed. You can also get these benefits by applying chocolate to your skin which some say can help in the production of collagen. Combine it with honey, coconut cream and avocado for a beautifully lush mask that your face will love. Apply a thin layer, leave it on for 10 minutes and gently rinse it off. The benefits are two fold- your skin will love it AND you can eat the left overs in the bowl!

What a fun idea to make face masks using what’s available at home! Not to mention all natural too. I think I will give the chocolate mask a go with my sister for a girly weekend this Saturday. Can’t wait!
