Couple Name Their Baby After Internet Provider To Get Free WiFi

Couple Name Their Baby After Internet Provider To Get Free WiFi

A couple have named their daughter after an internet company provider just so they can get 18 years worth of free internet. Clever or crazy?

Spotting the ad on Facebook, the Swiss couple responded to the Swiss start up company called Twifi, which was offering free WiFi for 18 years to anyone who named their child after the company. A son would be Twifus and a daughter Twifia.

The campaign is also featured on their website and reads, “Simply upload a photo of your child’s civil birth certificate. After verification, Twifi will give you 18 years of free internet.”

While the parents weren’t quite ready to name their offspring Twifus or Twifia, they did give their daughter the moniker as a middle name.

Discussing the money, they said they would put it aside in a savings account for Twifia to buy her first car when she turns 18.

Speaking to kidspot.com.au, the dad said: “The longer I thought about it, the more unique the name became for me, and that was when the thing got its charm.”

It took a little longer for the mum to warm to the name but she’s grown to love it. She added: “It’s his child too. And for me, the name Twifia also stands for connection in this context. For an eternal bond!

“There are much worse names. And the more often we say ‘Twifia‘, the heartier the name sounds!”

The couple decided to remain remain anonymous as they admitted to feeling  ‘somewhat embarrassed‘ about their choice of name.

“We want to remain anonymous to those around us because we don’t want to justify ourselves. Because the accusation of having sold our child’s name hits us very hard. We are also a little ashamed.”

Philippe Fotsch, boss of Twifi, has assured couples that even if his company doesn’t succeed he will continue to pay for the couple’s internet regardless. “It’s a matter of honour,” he said.

And in case you’re wondering, yes, the offer is still available to take up! Go on, do it!
