FREE School Holiday Fun: AFL Footy Festival September 27th-30th

FREE School Holiday Fun: AFL Footy Festival September 27th-30th

What better way could there be to kick off the spring school holidays than by planning a day out at the AFL’s free Footy Festival? Located at Yarra Park, outside Gate 3 of the MCG, the festival promises to be packed full of some of Melbourne’s favourite fast food trucks, Australia’s first UberEATS restaurants, pop-up bars, local DJs and plenty of activities for the kids.

Toyota AFL Grand Final Live Site

The Toyota AFL Grand Final Live Site is the entertainment hotspot and the heart of the Footy Festival site, with free activities for the whole family to enjoy including interactive displays, prize giveaways and the chance to meet the players.

Past AFL matches will be played on the big screen, along with award-winning AFL360, and the ever-entertaining bounce.

The Grand Final game will be broadcast live on the big screen on Saturday 30th September. This is as close to the action you can get without a ticket for the game. Fans will be able to hear the roar of the crowd and join in from the comfort of their seat on the Yarra Park lawn.

Grand Final Parade

Supporters will get the chance to see their favourite players who will take to the field on Grand Final day in the Toyota AFL Grand Final Parade on Friday 29th September from 12pm. The parade starts at the OLD Treasury Building and finishes in the Toyota AFL Grand Final Live Site at Yarra Park. Joining the players in the parade will be marching bands, roving entertainment and much more!

Kids Zone: Fun for the Kids

The Kids Zone is jam-packed with activities to keep kids (big kids included) entertained for hours, including NAB Auskick Clinics (run every hour), AFL Rookie Passport, Woolworth’s AFL Playground featuring amongst other activities the AFL’s biggest ever inflatable obstacle course (37 metres) and the Gaming Zone where fans can play some of this year’s biggest games on the new Nintendo Switch.

And that’s not all! The AFL Kids 360 Degree Photo Booth at the AFL Kids Dome will also let kids capture their own finals footy moment or mid-air speccy, free mini footballs will be on offer at the AFL Kids Art Play area along with guest appearances from AFL and AFLW players, and footy stars will be cooking up a storm with sessions held on the hour between 11am and 2pm in the Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Lunchbox.

Taste of Football

Some of Melbourne’s top eats are coming together to provide delicious food – each bringing their token dishes with an AFL twist. These include, Biggie Smalls, Doughnut Time, Taco truck, Roadhouse by Fancy Hanks, Gelato Messina, Happy Camper Pizza, Ghost Kitchen, Jim Beam Citrus Park and Yak Ales Watering Hole.

For the first time, UberEATS will be hosting an exclusive VIP area at the Footy Festival for UberEATS customers and their families to enjoy the tasty treats on offer. The 140 seat UberEATS restaurant will include the Epicure Bar, live DJ, complimentary charging stations and colouring activities for kids and allows customers the option to skip the queue and order their food in the UberEats app and collect it from the collection point. So you can keep everyone happy, even when they all want food from somewhere different, and you won’t have to queue up multiple times to make it happen!

The AFL Footy Festival is a FREE family event held on:

Wednesday 27th September 10am – 6pm

Thursday 28th September 10am – 6pm

Friday 29th September 9am – 6pm

Saturday 30th September (Grand Final Day) 9am – 6pm

Members of the public are encouraged to buy a Premiership Cup Pin from the Ladder (with support of Public Transport Victoria (PTV)) stall, with all sale proceeds supporting Ladder’s work tackling youth homelessness.

Jolene

Jolene enjoys writing, sharing and connecting with other like-minded women online – it also gives her the perfect excuse to ignore Mount-Washmore until it threatens to bury her family in an avalanche of Skylander T-shirts and Frozen Pyjama pants. (No one ever knows where the matching top is!) Likes: Reading, cooking, sketching, dancing (preferably with a Sav Blanc in one hand), social media, and sitting down on a toilet seat that one of her children hasn’t dripped, splashed or sprayed on. Dislikes: Writing pretentious crap about herself in online bio’s and refereeing arguments amongst her offspring.
