Here’s What Octomum And Her Octuplets Looks Like Today!
Remember Nadya Suleman? The mum who gave birth via IVF to octuplets in 2009? It’s been eight years since Suleman controversially had the eight children while she was already a single mother to six others.
Her story captured the interest and curiosity of the whole world it seemed. So much so that she and her enormous brood starred in a documentary called ‘Octomum:The Incredible Unseen footage.’ People were both fascinated and disgusted by this woman, a single and unemployed mum, who was trying to raise 14 kids all under the scrutiny of the public eye!
Suleman did everything she could to make sure she had money to clothe and feed her kids and used the notoriety to her advantage. She did countless interviews on TV and magazines, appeared on the Dr. Phil and Oprah Winfrey Shows as well as starring in her own reality TV show showing the daily lives and chaos of her and the kids.
The mum of 14 went through a dark period as ‘Octomum.’ In order to make ends meet, she found herself working as a stripper as well as starring in adult movies. She made the decision to stop living that life when she realised she wasn’t setting a good example for her children. The turning point came when she found one of her daughters dressed in her stripper heels. Suleman says that was a huge wake up call.
“There was definitely a catalyst — my girls, particularly my oldest daughter Amerah. She was about 10, and she started integrating my traits and behaviors,” she says. “After I had observed my daughter beginning to emulate me, I saw her going down that same potentially destructive path, and I realized at that moment I’d rather be homeless in my van with all 14 kids than continuing down this path. It was not what I wanted for my children.”
Suleman and her brood moved to Orange County, California for a new start about three years ago. She now works as a family therapy counselor, a job she loves very much.
“I was alive again,” she says. “As ‘Octomom,’ I was the walking dead. When I woke up and I went back to my roots, my helping profession, and my kids, we were struggling financially but it didn’t matter. I never felt so free and so happy in my life.”
