Kate Middleton Admits To Feeling Lonely And Isolated As a Mum!

As far as the royals are concerned we probably don’t think we have anything common with any of them. They lead lifestyles that are so far removed from the average person’s that it’s almost unthinkable to believe they are anything like us.

Yet it turns out Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, is more like the average mum than we first thought. The 35-year-old mother to Prince George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, 1, says she has the exact same feeling of loneliness and isolation that all mothers feel from time to time.

Speaking to a group of mums at London’s West London High School about how becoming a parent can be an incredibly isolating experience Middleton said she was not immune to these emotions. “Yes, it is lonely at times and you do feel quite isolated, but actually so many other mothers are going through exactly what you are going through,” the Duchess said. “It is being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out to those around you.”

The young royals have been very vocal about mental health lately, with Prince Harry speaking out about losing his mum and Prince William lending his voice to fight the stigma of depression.

Princess Kate just last month also spoke about the stresses that come along with becoming a parent. She said, “Nothing can really prepare you for the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother. For many mothers, myself included, this can at times lead to a lack of confidence and feelings of ignorance.”

We love seeing this side to the Royal family. Hearing them share personal stories and experiences with people helps to humanise them. It takes away the stiffness that used to come with being a prince or princess. Breaking with protocol is something Princess Diana was renowned for. We love seeing her sons take the same stand she did- they are definitely carrying on her legacy and in the process are winning over many new followers and supporters!
