Mum Furious That Her Child Was Left Unsupervised at a Sleepover While the Parents Went to the Pub

Mum Furious That Her Child Was Left Unsupervised at a Sleepover While the Parents Went to the Pub

We place a lot of trust in other parents when we allow our children to have a sleepover at their house. Often we assume that their family is much the same as ours and that our child will be in safe hands as any other child would be in our own homes.

But that isn’t always the case, as one furious mum has found.

Posting to Mumsnet, the clearly angry mother penned a post asking if she was being unreasonable to think that it was wrong that her child’s friend’s parents had nicked off to the pub leaving the children unsupervised for hours during a recent sleepover.

Ohhh I would be SO pissed!

Not only did they leave the children unsupervised while they were out, but they were obviously in no state to take care of them when they returned either!

Other mums were equally enraged, but it was also pointed out that 12-year-olds could be left to their own devices for a few hours without suffering any serious harm.

“I wouldn’t plan activities for my 11-year-old, no. They’d rather die than do a parent-planned activity at a sleepover!” wrote one mum. “But the rest is a bit grim. I wouldn’t mind them being on their own for an hour or so but not till that time in charge of a 9-year-old.”

“Agree planned entertainment is not required at that age, but an adult in the house certainly is!” added another.

“In my opinion, 12 is an appropriate age for children to be left on their own for a few hours. Granted the doors are locked, they know how to safely use and switch off appliances and know who to contact in case of an emergency,” agreed a third. “However, It was inappropriate of the mother to get pissed up and return shouting about covid in front of the children.”

What do you think? How would you react in this scenario?
