Woman Gets A Tattoo After Suffering A Miscarriage
When a woman suffers a miscarriage it can be a very lonely and isolating experience. She’s either not told anyone she was pregnant yet or the people around her that know stay silent out of fear of ‘saying the wrong thing.’
Regardless of how far along a woman is when she miscarries, she has already named that baby and imagined it as part of her life. So when it ends so tragically sometimes it can feel like it never happened.
An Igmur user, by the name of sweatmaster, recently experienced this tragedy first hand and wanted to do something to commemorate the memory of her baby.
She said in an interview with SELF magazine that “I wanted to get a tattoo to kind of remember and be able to heal and move on. It would be my tribute to this baby that we wanted but unfortunately didn’t last.”
She got the meaningful tattoo inked on her to help break down the shame associated with women who experience miscarriages. “It’s sort of a conversation piece, because I know people don’t want to talk about miscarriages, and it’s really taboo. But for me, I’m not really ashamed that it happened. It was another life experience even though it was a bad life experience. I don’t want to forget and I don’t want to pretend it didn’t happen.”
It’s a beautiful design that’s very abstract when you first look at it but then becomes crystal clear as to what the image represents. Just beautiful.
