Pia Miller Shares Her Experience Of Being A Teen Mum
Sometimes the choice of when to have children isn’t really your choice at all. Women are becoming mums later and later in life which can mean falling pregnant doesn’t happen as easily. There are fertility issues and health problems associated with giving birth over a certain age for women. It sucks but it’s true.
Just like being an older mum comes with it’s pros and cons, so too does having your kids at a young age- in your teens even. One Aussie actress who had her first child at 19 years old is Home and Away star Pia Miller.
“I was in my late teens caring for a baby, working, bringing him to shoots and worrying that maybe I was damaging him in some way,” she says in a recent interview for Elle magazine.
While all her friends were travelling the world and finding themselves, she had a newborn to care for.
The 33 year old beauty admits having a son at such a young age scared her a lot. She says having family around to help with the newborn while she continued to work was her saving grace.
Her first son Isaiah Loyola is now 14 and she later had Lennox, 10, with her ex-husband Brad Miller who she separated from last year in October. (Miller is currently dating film producer Tyson Mullane.)
“It was scary and there was fear of the unknown and what my future would be like, but once I decided that was the path I was going to take, it all just happened from there and became almost seamless,” she said.
“I was in my late teens caring for a baby, working, bringing him to shoots and worrying that maybe I was damaging him in some way while everyone else was out finding themselves or whatever. But somehow I don’t feel like I missed out because as soon as the boys were older, I got a presenting job with Qantas and was able to see the world that way.”
“Then I landed my Home And Away role so it’s all worked out, just in a different order. I always think things follow a bigger plan,” she said.
