Pink Shares A Gym Selfie On Instagram Telling Mums To ‘Stay Off The Scales!’

Pink Shares A Gym Selfie On Instagram Telling Mums To ‘Stay Off The Scales!

Pink shared a gym selfie to her Instagram account the other day which was accompanied by a very inspiring caption aimed at all new mums who may be struggling with their baby weight.

In the post the singer encouraged mums to fight against the public pressure of having to lose your baby weight so quickly after having your child. Pink had her second baby Jameson in December and has worked steadily to exercise and stay healthy since then.

The photo which was uploaded shows the mum of two mid gym session.

“Would you believe I’m 160 pounds (72kgs) and 5’3”? By ‘regular standards’ that makes me obese,” she wrote. “I know I’m not at my goal or anywhere near it after Baby two but dammit I don’t feel obese. The only thing I’m feeling is myself. Stay off that scale ladies! #feelingmyself #strongismygoal #bodygoals @msjeanettejenkins #happysaturday #getitin #GIJaneismyWCW.”” How amazing are those hashtags too!

The reason Pink refers to obesity is because she’s going off the Center for Disease Control’s BMI calculations with her height and weight ratio that supposedly determines your healthy body weight.

These BMI assessments have come under heavy criticism lately as they don’t take other factors into account like muscle mass. Pink’s height and weight may put her at 28.3, which is technically overweight according to the CDC calculator, but not obese.

The message the singer sends though is an important one- focus on getting strong not skinny!

Even her trainer, Jeannette Jenkins shared her thoughts on the matter and re-posted Pink’s photo along with her regimen in the caption:

So my rockstar client @pink decided to share part of her post baby #StrongIsMyGoal journey today! Now that’s some hard work right there! And while I’m definitely not a new mum, I have recently undertaken a new health and fitness journey to strengthen my body and tone up. It’s nothing major, just a little tweaking to get me motivated. I too have been focusing on getting strong rather than losing weight. And in fact I haven’t stepped on a set of scales for a very long time. I know roughly where my weight lies but I definitely don’t want to be stepping on scales every day. It would do my head in! We all know our weight can fluctuate for many reasons so we don’t need that extra pressure of wondering why we’re 500g heavier today than we were yesterday.

There’s a saying that goes you should ‘work out not because you hate your body but because you love it’. So true! And Pink’s message to new mothers is so empowering! Yes, she is working on losing some weight but her main focus is to get fit and stay healthy for her two children. Scales should not be part of the equation. And for God’s sake do not look up any BMI counter crap as it will just do your head in. Move a little every day and pretty soon you will feel and look stronger. You don’t need any pressure from numbers telling you you’re not good enough!
