This Professor Insisted That All Phone Calls Must Be Taken via Speaker Phone – Until This Happened
We can imagine how difficult it must be to get students off their phones during class time. We get it.
We’re always told to put our phones on silent if we’re attending a ceremony or something important where paying attention is key. But this professor’s method of preventing phone calls from interrupting his lessons needed to be reconsidered, as demonstrated in this video which is being shared thousands of times on social media.
“This professor has a policy in his classroom where if someone’s phone rings in the middle of class, they have to answer it and put it on speaker … this is hilarious,” Michigan college student Cody Swingle explained to his Twitter followers.
The video begins with the professor telling the owner of the phone to answer the call and put it on speaker as per his class rules.
“Answer it,” he instructs, with a laugh. This is clearly an ongoing issue in his classes, and we can’t blame him for trying to put a stop to the interruptions.
The whole class then listens in to what turns out to be a very private phone call that should never have been broadcast to the entire classroom.
The professor is clearly mortified and visibly uncomfortable as the phone call continues despite his requests to “shut it down”.

We think the professor has certainly learnt his lesson! While their phones should definitely be set to silent, there needs to be a respect for privacy that this professor clearly overlooked when coming up with his speakerphone policy. His students have demonstrated their point perfectly.
We don’t think he’ll be enforcing that rule again anytime soon.
