The Exercise Bike/Washing Machine Combo Is Here to Make Us Suffer Even More While Doing Laundry
Have you ever been in the middle of doing the laundry and thought that maybe it’s not that bad after all? No, me neither. But maybe tomorrow I’ll have that thought after seeing the monstrosity that is the exercise bike/washing machine combo that some inventive students have designed as the way of the future.
Fan-effing-tastic, that’s all I can say.
The concept, which first appeared on Tuvie, combines every woman’s two favourite activities: riding a bike and doing laundry.
Behold, ladies, the modern day torture device that is the Bike Washing Machine™, which is guaranteed to “bring health and convenience for our life”.
I mean, just look at how happy that illustrated woman looks to be manually washing her clothes!
Designed by students at Dalian Nationalities University in China, The Bike Washing Machine is a human-powered washing machine that conserves water while encouraging fitness.
It is rather clever. The big wheel at the front of an exercise bike is replaced by a washing machine drum. It wouldn’t hold a full family-sized load so if you got one you’d probably spend all day cycling away like a mad woman but hey, that might be your thing so more power to you!
Speaking of power, you get to generate your own as you cycle, so that maybe next time you can use the display screen, as the designers explain:
“Bike Washing Machine combines a stationary bicycle and washing machine, you can exercise while at the same time simultaneously washing your clothes. When you ride this bike, the pedalling motion causes the drum of the washing machine to rotate, at the same time, the superfluous electricity is generated which can be used to power the display screen or stored for future use.”How nifty!
It might seem to be a fabulous idea to get your workout done while washing your family’s undies but I remain unconvinced. How about you? Would you like one of these bad boys for your laundry room?
