Vegetarian Airline Passenger Left Sorely Disappointed With His Mid Flight Meal!
If you’ve ever been served a meal mid flight then chances are you’ve been left massively disappointed by the culinary ‘delight’ that was placed in front of you. Unless you’re in First Class, in which case- screw you! Translation- I’m so jealous!!
I always wait with anticipation to pull back the foil cover that releases the steam from whatever dried piece of meat the airline is serving up. It’s usually drowned in a gravy and served with either rice or mashed potato. I begin by eating around the meat but then end up demolishing it cause really, what else do I have to do on a long haul 14 hour flight!
Luckily there’s usually a selection of little bits and pieces like crackers and cheese, or an apple danish, a little yoghourt or maybe a piece of fruit to distract me from the sloppy main. There’s something for everyone really. Everyone that’s not a vegetarian that is!
Unless you’re a vegetarian yourself or live with one then you really have no idea how bad some of their meal options are. I remember going to a restaurant once and my husband being told all they could offer him was some cut up tomato with grated cheese on top. Everything else had been cooked in some kind of fish or beef stock!
So if it’s hard to get a decent meal ON the ground imagine how hard it must be to eat well as a vegetarian in the air!
Journalist Steve Hogarty experienced just that while travelling with Colombian airline Avianca recently. Upon requesting a vegetarian meal he was promptly presented with the saddest excuse of lunch we have ever seen.
“The vegetarian meal on this flight is an apple and a pear wrapped in clingfilm, served with a knife and fork,” Hogarty shared on twitter.

The airline responded to the photo straight away saying that was not their normal vegetarian meal option.
“Service is our priority, please let us know your flight date/number and also your contact information via DM. This is not our standard so we surely will investigate as soon as possible,” a representative for the airline said. Hogarty replied by saying “I will DM you some recipe ideas”.
The photo prompted lots of responses from other disgruntled passengers who also shared their experiences of being served depressing looking meals.

What do you think of the meal? Would you have been happy with it as a vegetarian?
