Whippet Wear Is The Fashion Trend Your Pooch Needs This Winter!
Winter is officially here and it’s not just humans who need fashionable yet functional protection from the harsh elements. Our four legged friends do too, especially the much loved whippet!
With their short coats and low body fat, whippets feel the icy blasts more so than their hairier counterparts. Which is exactly why dog owner and lover Jemma Thomas started Coat the Label which produces minimalist merino-wool garments specifically for whippets. The coats, which were first made for her whippet Stevie, are functional, understated and designed to breathe and move with the body. The designs feature three classic tones with a new colour released each season and provide warmth and flexibility for your favourite pooch.
Speaking to Broadsheet, Jemma says the coats are designed and handmade in Melbourne. The minimalist design ensures they will suit all whippets and provide them with the warmth their bodies need.
“Clothing for whippets is essential due to their short coats and low body fat,” Jemma says. “They need to be warm and comfortable whether they’re outside or in. Finding this flexibility in a dog garment was difficult, especially one that was minimal, classic and understated.”
“Each garment has been designed for warmth and ease of wear,” Jemma explains. “High in the neck, long in the back and full coverage across the chest was key.”
The coats comes in three shades of black, charcoal and grey, and cost $79 plus shipping. A new colour is released every season; this winter it’s a beautiful shade of olive green.
Asked whether she will cater for other dog breeds, the designer says: “I’m keeping it within the sighthound family, as it is very difficult to find garments designed specifically for them with their unique body types. Greyhounds, thankfully, are becoming household pets [and] rescue rates are increasing, so they are definitely something I want to create for as soon as possible.”

I didn’t think it possible to make Whippets look even more elegant than nature intended. Lovely photos and the snood looks just adorable!
