Woman Says Mums That Do School Drop Offs Should Put More Effort Into Their Appearance!

Woman Says Mums That Do School Drop Offs Should Put More Effort Into Their Appearance!

Parents are very familiar with what a typical school morning looks like. It usually consists of waking the kids up, making lunch, getting breakfast ready, signing permission forms, finding lost shoes, packing swimming bags, putting hair in a ponytail, putting hair in a braid, taking braid out, putting hair back in a ponytail, screaming for everyone to get in the car and hoping you’ve remembered to put a bra on as you frantically search for your keys!

I understand this is not everyone’s scenario but let’s just agree that generally mornings are abuzz with a sense of chaos all round. While we scurry to get our kids ready and looking half decent for a day of school chances are we don’t get much time to do the same for ourselves.

But for one woman the level of personal care she’s seen from other mums at her school gate has left her mortified. So horrified in fact that she felt the need to go on a public Facebook rant to express her disgust! She urged mums to step it up a notch and “try a little” and “take some pride” in the way they present themselves.

“I know this is stirring up some haters so whatever,” she wrote. “Sorry if this hits close to home. Ladies, even if you aren’t getting out of the car at drop off can you try a little.

“I look around as I’m walking my daughter to the front door and all we see is rat nest hair, no make-up, eye bags out to wherever and I’m not 100 per cent but I think I smell morning breath coming from these cars,” the woman continued her rant.

The mum went on to say that her 7 year old daughter often comments on how ‘how pretty’ she looks and often asks why the other mums look ‘so old’!

“On the real, if my seven year old can see you aren’t even trying, what is your husband thinking? Take some pride,” the mum added.

Oh wow!! Okay…so we’ve just gone there have we? Making an effort for yourself is one thing but making statements on how your partner feels towards you is another!

Unsurprisingly, the post caused an uproar on her Facebook page with many angry mums writing in to express their point of view.

“I rolled up in my pyjamas and slippers without a coat this morning,” one mum commented. “No way in hell am I getting up earlier to get dressed and put on makeup and getting two kids out of the house in the morning. They’re lucky I brush my teeth and sometimes put in my contacts.”

“My kid asks me why I’m being so fancy when I’ve showered,” another added. “All you other moms are welcome for the low expectations on you. Doing my duty to society.”

“Ahhh mother-daughter bonding over caring what men think of your appearance,” one parent wrote.  “Me? I’ll teach my daughter to love herself. With makeup. Without makeup. Maybe she’ll have a huge hairy mole on her cheek and she’ll be relentlessly bullied and it’ll build character. One can only hope.”

“I’d be so ashamed if my seven-year-old said something like this. We’d be having a long talk,” another mum commented.

Honestly, posts like this do nothing but pit women against each other. As mothers we’re all doing the best we can to make sure our kids are fed, and bathed and at school on time. Surely the way we look is secondary?

But on the other hand we as parents do lead by example and more often than not kids will ‘do as they see’ and not ‘do as we say’. We can scream until we’re black and blue in the face for our kids to brush their hair and put on a clean pair off socks but what message are we sending them if we aren’t doing the same.

And while no-one expects you to rock up to the school gate with a full face of make up and immaculately blow dried hair – it’s totally okay if you do – in fact I say GO YOU! Likewise if you’re in the car in your pj’s and slippers then HIGH FIVE to you also! Both mums got their kids to school on time and at the end of the day isn’t that what really matters? What do you think? Personally I think we need more sympathy and understanding and less judgmental shaming on social media.
