Read to My Child: The Best of the Bears!
This month it’s all about the bears! And who can resist ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ by incredibly talented Australian, Nick Bland. This rollicking rhyming story is about a bear who is really very grumpy. But why? And how can four little furry friends cheer him up? With a lovely focus on thoughtfulness, by the character we would least expect, this story will have your children laughing out loud on one page and hiding behind their hands on the next!

‘I Want My Hat Back‘ by John Klassen is the story of a bear who has lost his hat and embarks on a desperate search to find it, only to discover it’s been taken by a cheeky rabbit! Unique and deceptively simple illustrations compliment the minimal text that holds within it an increasing sense of expectation and suspense. The dark humour of the ending is deliciously naughty, however, be prepared to answer the question ‘where did the rabbit go?’!!
Our third feature bear book is ‘Scary Bear‘ by Tania Cox, illustrated by Danny Snell. In this story, the incredibly endearing Bear spends his time running away from a scary bear, only to discover that the bear he’s been running away from is him! With delightfully soft illustrations, repetitive phrases that children can remember and read along with, and plenty of animals to enjoy, this book is perfect for pre-schoolers (although my five year old still loves it!)
