Influencer Cops Huge Online Backlash for Her Halloween-Inspired Bathroom Makeover
As we approach mid-October (at a startling rate may I add!), for many families with young children, the countdown to Halloween has begun. It’s almost time to put together those spooky costumes and hit the neighbourhood with basket in hand for some good old-fashioned Trick or Treating!
Halloween, which originated from a Pagan festival in the UK (not America), has gained popularity in recent years here in Australia, with many homeowners decorating the front of their homes with spooky accessories to delight the local children.
As social media begins to fill with Halloween inspo, one Instagram influencer has come under fire from fans for sharing a video of how she gave her bathroom a sppoky makeover for her children.
The video shows as @the_hayeks fully decks out her bathroom with Halloween shower curtain, toilet cover, bath insert and even black toilet paper. She then fills up the bath adding coloured pellets to make the water turn orange, floats pumpkin tea lights on top and adds an assortment of plastic decorations around the walls such as bats, a cobweb, a giant spider and even a witch.
Used to receiving gushing praise for her posts that chronicle her family’s lavish lifestyle, the usually popular mum @the_hayeks received backlash for the sponsored post showing how she decorated her bathroom with items from Chinese retailer Temu.
Instead of congratulating her on her Halloween-inspired bath tub, commenters called it “ridiculous,” with one person accusing her of being ‘the epitome of over consumption.”
While some fans jumped to her defence saying she was just “having fun,” and the negative commenters were just “jealous and miserable,” many people expressed concern that the items would all end up in landfill.
“If you don’t see how ridiculous this is you are part of the problem,” countered another user.
What do you think? is the makeover wow or wasteful?
