Celebrity Dads Separate Twins in Custody Battle

If your relationship went sour would you separate your twins? One of you takes one and the other the other? This is exactly what has happened in the US.

Celebrity couple David Tutera and Ryan Jurica (David is a wedding planner and TV host of My Fair Wedding and Ryan was his partner of ten years), have separated and they have taken the child that each has fathered. Each of them fathered an egg each and the twins were born in July to a surrogate mother.

The twins in question were newborn and a boy and a girl. David Tutera is the father of a girl called, Cielo and Ryan Jurica is the father of a boy called, Cedric. The estranged couple now live on opposite sides of the US and are bringing up each child individually.

I am not a fan of this separation, no matter having different fathers for each child, they are still connected by being twins, born on the same day and sharing DNA from their mother¹s side. The twins in this story have the same biological mother who was also the surrogate mother for the whole pregnancy.

Tutera was on ‘The View’ and asked by ‘Barbara Walters, Tutera said if the babies shared exactly the same DNA the couple might not have split them up’ (News Ltd.)

According to this quote from an article in news.com.au if the babies were identical they might have kept them together? Well that is nice isn’t it. Twins regardless of boy/girl, boy/boy, girl/girl twins and also if they are fraternal or identical have a real bond. Breaking this is just
evil and wrong in my book. What are your thoughts?

I know the twins were babies, but I don’t agree with each partner taking a baby. The kids should grow up together and have the same bond other twins have. It is not fair to them. My girls are so close and also at times are worst enemies but I would not deny that as it is sibling rivalry that is what you go through with sisters or brothers

Taking a child each has been seen as similar to splitting up furniture or other possessions when you go through a breakup. Would you want to split up your twins? Would you do this to other children if they weren’t twins? Not a good idea, it can damage them in years to come.

David and Ryan decided to have kids after having a rocky and patchy relationship for six years. Why do people think that kids fix things? If anything they can make couples break up. The extra stress and demands don’t help they push you to your extremes.

If you are not in a strong relationship it might not last. Especially twins for first kids, trust me, I had twins as my first kids. I have a great relationship with my hubby and we really wanted kids and are
willing to work on things. David and Ryan have learned the hard way, or have the kids?

Tim Dansie is an Australian parenting expert, and he believes that this couple have made a huge and terrible mistake by splitting up the twins.

Tim is quoted below:

“Ideally, the parents should live near each other and be involved in each other’s lives so they can attend parent-teacher interviews and community activities like sport.

“And if there are siblings, they should be able to have a relationship together and have the benefit of that as they grow up.”

Would you do this to your children? I could not and would not. I think that twins are special and should be treated as such. Let us know your thoughts.

I am a mother to four year old identical twin girls, who keep me very busy. On top of looking after the girls, I have finished a master’s degree in project management and keen to graduate, I blog on my blog “Mummy to Twins”, I attempt to keep the house clean and tidy, and I try to fit in some me time as well.
