Geologist Finds a Rare Rock Formation That Looks Just Like the Cookie Monster
This has to be the greatest good news story we’ve seen in a good while. A geologist was doing geologist things when he happened across a rock that looks exactly like Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster.
We cannot stress enough how much pure joy this has brought us.
I mean, look at it.
The unusual formation was found in the Rio Grande do Sul region near Soledade in Brazil by geologist Lucas Fassari who then sent it to fellow geologist and rock expert Mike Bowers in California, who then shared the find on social media.
From the outside, the rock looks pretty ordinary. It’s rather plain and boring, and shaped like an egg.
But crack that bad boy open and it’s cookie time, baby! Om nom nom!
Mike Bowers, who now has the rock in his possession, reckons that it could be worth over US$10,000 (AU$13,000).
“This is very unusual!” Bowers said of the find. “There are a few famous agates out there: the owl, the scared face… there are many approximate ones but rare to find clear well defined like that.
“Prices can be very high. I was proposed over $10,000 ($13,000 AUD) by 5 different buyers. Rare.”
The unique rock has been shared on multiple social media platforms, going viral in the process. It seems to genuinely bring a smile to many people’s faces.
We’ll leave the final word to Twitter user Saskiago4, who summed up the scenario perfectly.
If I was a geologist and made this discovery, I would either have to immediately retire, having reached the pinnacle of my career, or I would have to start looking for the Kermit Rock.
