Great Depression Recipe For Peanut Butter Bread Makes A Comeback Amid Coronavirus Lockdown!
One of the great things that has come out of the Coronavirus induced lockdown has been all the baking taking place. I don’t know about you but I’ve loved rediscovering old favourite recipes such as Peanut Butter Bread which looks to be making a comeback thanks to social media.
The recipe for this bread is said to hail from a Great Depression- era cookbook titled Five Roses Flour Cookbook that was first published in 1932. For some families it’s been a staple for generations and for others like me it’s a new recipe to inflict onto my unsuspecting family.
Fans of the bread have taken to social media to rave about it saying things like, “ Ran out of bread under lockdown so we made the (delicious) peanut butter bread!” “Boy oh boy will I be making this! Yours looks amazing,” and “I’ve got this in the oven right now. I used almond milk so we’ll see how it goes!”
Feel like trying this out yourself? Here’s the recipe. Let us know what you think.
