Mum Is Considering Removing Six Year Old Daughter’s Body Hair!

Mum Is Considering Removing Six Year Old Daughter’s Body Hair!

Here’s a tricky situation. As women we are very vocal about accepting all body sizes and shapes and we do our best to help our daughters love the bodies they’re in. But what about when that daughter turns to you and says she’s really unhappy with the way she looks and wants you to help her change. What would you do? No-one wants to see their child unhappy or be bullied at school.

One mum turned to Mumsnet for advice after revealing she’s considering helping her daughter remove her back and leg hair. The six year old feels self conscious and wants to know if there’s anything she can do to remove the hair.

At first the mum tried to talk her daughter out of it by reassuring the six year old that ‘everyone’s body is different’ but is now considering letting her remove it with her help.

Her post was met with dozens of messages of support and encouragement from other mums who understood exactly where she was coming from.

The mother admitted she sounded ‘ridiculous’ to even consider removing the hair but that she also wanted her daughter to be able to make her own choices. She also shared a photo of her daughter’s leg for context.

‘She asked me if there was a way to get rid of the hair, we talked about it and I said everyone’s bodies being different and that coupled with the sun lightening the hair pacified her for a while,’ she said.

The six year old is feeling so self conscious that she no longer wants to go swimming and is even wearing leggings in summer to cover her body.

‘No bitchy comments please, I do realise she’s very young but just want to do my best to help her,’ the mum pleaded.

Mumsnet users agreed that she should help the little girl, despite her young age.

One commented: ‘I’d let her remove it. It’s horrible feeling self conscious about something and not being able to change it.’

‘I would let her remove it as it’s upsetting her so much,’ another posted.

‘I was hairy as a child and it was horrendous, I got badly bullied for it. I’ve told both my girls that if they want to remove hair I will help them. Eldest is 10 and has never asked, but I would find a waxing salon for her if she asked. Hopefully that would help with the regrowth being lighter.’

Where do you stand on this debate? Have you found yourself in this same situation and what did you do?
