Mum Shares Thank You Message to the Boy Who Helped Her Daughter After a Period Emergency
Most of us would have experienced a period emergency at one time or another — whether it is having to handle an unfortunate leak or perhaps being stuck without access to a pad or a tampon when it is needed the most. It seems to be something we all go through at some stage!
But dealing with a period emergency as a woman is one thing, it’s quite another if it happened to a young teenage girl in public facing a humiliating walk home with a stain on the back of her pants.
A mother has written a heartfelt thank you post on Facebook, praising the actions of a young man who came to the aid of her daughter after she unknowingly started her period while riding the bus home from school.
What could have been a potentially awkward situation was quickly resolved when a boy came to her rescue.
Her words are all the reminder we need to ensure that our sons are taught to be just as kind, compassionate and discreet when dealing with periods.
What an awesome kid!
After this image was shared to Reddit it received loads of upvotes and opened up an important dialogue about how we teach our children to be good humans.
“I’ve taught my sons (13 and 11) to do the same thing. I’m in tears reading this. We are all in this together!!!” wrote one parent.
“Whenever I read these kinds of stories I feel that kids these days are more mindful than we are,” wrote another. “As a kid, I probably wouldn’t have even noticed, let alone know what to do in that sort of situation.”
“This highlights the importance of teaching boys about girls’ bodies, and vice versa. Understanding engenders compassion.”
It certainly does. We wrote about the heroics of Dave the Period Fairy last year, and the profound effect it had on the woman he rescued. It appears he may have a young sidekick!

The boy who helped the girl in this embarrassing situation should be very proud of himself.
I can imagine others would probably have either bullied the girl or made fun of her behind her back. His parents are to be congratulated on teaching their son compassion and understanding.
