Myer Helps Victims of Domestic Violence by Launching Their Give Registry

give registry

Myer has partnered with The Salvation Army to create the Give Registry, a registry that allows customers to buy items from the department story to give to women and families affected by domestic violence.

The Give Registry was launched on 1st August by Myer Ambassador Lauren Phillips. The gift registry will by like other registries available at the department store, encouraging shoppers to purchase pre-selected essentials that will help women and children rebuild their lives.

Some of the essentials include linen, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery, appliances and clothing just to name a few.

Myer will match each donation made and these will be distributed through The Salvation Army’s crisis accommodation and women’s refuges.

Richard Umbers, the Chief Executive and Managing Director of Myer says the crusade will provide practical support to victims of family violence.

“Myer is standing up to family violence and we know that our customers and team members feel very passionately about this worthy cause,” he said. “The Give Registry means that we can work together with our customers to help make a difference in these women’s lives. We’re really proud to launch the Give Registry which provides practical support through the provision of much needed essential items.”

Many of the women and children who flee from domestic violence, leave with literally the clothes on their back. They often have nothing to rebuild their lives with.

Colonel Karyn Rigley, The Salvation Army’s secretary for women’s ministries, said “One in three women are affected by family violence in Australia. Family violence is also the leading cause of homelessness for women and children and often when a woman leaves a violent situation she leaves with nothing but the clothes on her back.

“Through the Give Registry we’ll be able to provide further practical care to women in crisis.”

This initiative is just one way to help families affected by domestic violence. To make a contribution, head here.
