Woman Says She Paid $150 To Attend Friend’s BBQ But Still Left Hungry
A woman who was recently invited to attend a friend’s BBQ party says each guest was asked to pay money to cover food and drinks. Unfortunately all the guests left hungry though after a rather unfortunate turn of events!
The angry mum took to Mumsnet to share her frustrations at leaving her friend’s barbecue with an empty stomach despite the fact she paid $150 for her and her husband to attend.
“A distant friend arranged a barbecue,” the woman wrote. “She invited six people and asked for £40 each. This was to go towards meat, veg and dessert and soft drinks (no alcohol).”
However soon after arriving at the party the host and her husband started arguing. And yes, everyone noticed.
“We all tried to help her as she was getting moody and sulking and she stressed she didn’t want help,” she said. “She eventually made a few batches of wings and corn and then started sulking and went inside.”
All the party guests were left alone outside while the husband and wife bickered inside. After half an hour, the husband came out and asked if everyone could leave as the host wasn’t feeling well.
“We all went hungry,” the mum said. “We got takeout on the way home (we paid £80! For the BBQ). I’m still shocked at the outcome of the day.”
Wow! Gotta say, we’d be pretty annoyed too!
Commenters on Mumsnet sided with the woman saying the hosts behaviour was unacceptable- especially since everyone had to pay for the food as well.
“Well paying for it was your first mistake,” one wrote. “I mean f**king hell you could have bought eight fillet steaks each for that much. I’d be straight on the phone asking for my money back.”
“I’m struggling to understand this,” said another person. “Who on earth charges friends for a BBQ? Let alone charging that much!
“And who on earth would even consider paying this? Sure take a bottle, or maybe some burgers, etc if asked but to pay is bonkers.”
In an updated post, the original poster responded that it was your standard barbecue menu, some wings, some corn, some dessert.
“I am considering calling them and asking for money back but not sure how they will take it,” she wrote.
What would you do in this situation?
