We Put This Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner to the Test: Aiper Scuba S1 Pro Review

Aiper Scuba S1 Pro Robotic Pool Cleaner Review

When my husband and I moved our family from country Victoria to the Gold Coast six years ago, one of the things we promised our three (less-than-impressed) kids was that we’d buy a house with a pool. With the warmer weather and high humidity, it made sense to have a pool, but I don’t think we were fully prepared for how much effort goes into the maintenance. One year, for example, our pool pump died a few days before our daughter’s 13th birthday, so when we woke up on the morning of the pool party she’d planned, it was not a dissimilar colour to Shrek’s swamp and alternative party plans had to be made quick smart. We also had to have a new pump installed ASAP and buy a lot of chemicals to return it to a swimmable state – an expense that we hadn’t bargained on right before Christmas!

So, I guess what I’m saying is, pools are fantastic when everything is running smoothly but keeping them clean is not a job you can take lightly. If you take your eye off the ball, or the pool in this case, things can go south pretty quickly! So, when I was recently given the opportunity to trial the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro, a cordless, robotic cleaner for my pool, it was a resounding, “yes please!”

What the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner Promises

The Aiper Scuba S1 Pro is positioned as a high-performance cordless robotic pool cleaner designed to take the hassle out of pool maintenance. It promises complete, hands-free cleaning with no hoses or cords, no external pumps, and no tangled cords. Its advanced WavePath 2.0 navigation system is engineered to map out efficient cleaning routes across the pool floor, walls and waterline — ensuring full coverage in less time. The S1 Pro also boasts multiple cleaning modes (auto, floor only, wall only, waterline and eco), giving users flexibility to customise how and where it cleans based on their pool’s needs. It’s also suitable for inground or above ground pools, pools of all shapes (rectangle, kidney or custom) and types (vinyl, concrete, fibreglass or mosaic tiles). It is not however, suitable for Infinity pools.

Another impressive feature of the Scuba S1 Pro that makes it a stand out in the market, is the ultra-fine dual filtration system, featuring a unique 3-micron filter pad, fine enough to trap algae, silt, sand, and microscopic debris that many pool cleaners miss.

On a full charge, the cleaner provides up to 3 hours of runtime in one of the standard modes. When used in Eco mode, the runtime extends to three separate 45-minute cleaning sessions spread over a week, allowing for longer, lower-power cleaning cycles that are ideal for maintaining a consistently clean pool with reduced energy consumption. Designed for pools up to 2,150 square feet, the unit features robust caterpillar treads for stable walk climbing and a self-docking system, which automatically moves the cleaner to the side of the pool at the end of the cycle, allowing users to easily hook and lift it out of the water for removal.

The Scuba S1 Pro makes its way to the edge of the pool when its battery is low so it can be easily retrieved.

What the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro Delivers

When I say that my husband was like a kid with a toy on Christmas morning when we unboxed the Scuba S1 Pro, I’m not even exaggerating…and I too stood there at the side of the pool watching it for longer than I care to admit, oohing and ahhing and giving little claps of approval when it scaled the walls with ease! (And writing that out has made me realise thar maybe I need to get out more!) Look, I’m just saying it’s really impressive, but maybe you had to be there!

Look at all that sand in the filter!

The part that I love the most though, (a bit like the vacuum in the house) is opening it up at the end and seeing the proof of what it has collected. I love that the filter baskets are easy to get to and clean. You simply lift the lid and pull them out, give them a good clean and then slide them back into place ready for next time. In the first few days the cordless robot cleaner picked up a lot of sand, which considering it has been about 5 weeks since anyone swam in the pool because its winter, our old cleaner clearly wasn’t able to pick it up. Usually my husband would have sent the boys out to give the pool walls a good scrub once a week to make sure nothing starts growing on them, but we haven’t had to do that either. With its ability to not only clean the floors, walls and waterline with its powerful roller brushes there is no doubt our pool is the cleanest it has been.

Having said that, we’re not ready to ditch the old pool cleaner entirely. As much as I love the deep and thorough clean the Scuba S1 Pro gives our pool, it does have its limitations. For example, although the Eco mode could be set up to do 3 x 45 minutes cleans across a week if we went on holiday, any longer than that and we’d have to swap it for the cleaner with the hose or come home to the something akin to the ‘Bog of Eternal Stench.’ (Yes, I know that movie reference ages me!)

The Aiper Scuba S1 Pro weighs almost 10kg – and even more when full of water. Users should be able to manage this weight comfortably to retrieve it from the pool.

Whether the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro is right for you will come down to a few things. If cordless convenience, deep cleaning and the ability to pick up fine debris or algae feature high on your wish list when it comes to a pool cleaner, the Scuba S1 Pro is seriously impressive. However, if you spend little time at home and prefer to be able to set and forget your pool cleaner, the Scuba Pro with its need to be manually retrieved from the pool and placed on charge regularly may not suit your lifestyle.

For the right user, the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro is a smart and effective investment in keeping your pool swim-ready with less stress.
