One thing that I have always noticed (and loved) about childcare and kinder settings, are the toys that are available for the children to play with. The kinder that my children attend take great care in the activities that they set up around the classroom to engage the children – and unlike the overflowing toy box at home, there isn’t a flashing light, annoying siren or battery operated piece of plastic in sight.

Instead the focus is on toys that improve gross motor development, spatial awareness, early maths and literacy: toys that expand the children’s imaginations, and encourage language and social skills, and I watch as the children, with their growing, hungry little brains, devour each activity with relish. Play is, as we know, an essential part of early learning and as parents we want to give our children the very best foundations on which to build…but in my experience, educational toys seem to carry a hefty price tag…or so I thought.

Educational toy specialist Clever Stuff is an Austrailan owned business, who pride themselves on providing Australian families with high-quality, eco-friendly toys to benefit children’s health and development at an affordable price.

The website is easy to navigate, allowing shoppers to search by price, age of the child (with products suitable for babies through to teens) meaning the perfect gift is only a few clicks away. It is even divided into Early Years Learning Framework brackets for those purchasing for child care centres.

magnetic word making chart

I’ve already purchased this magnetic word making chart to help make literacy more fun for my reluctant reader, and it has really helped, as he doesn’t view it as ‘work’ but a ‘game.’ This product has been instrumental in piquing interest in my preschooler too, who has been eagerly learning the alphabet and attempting to make words too. (And best of all – he thinks it is great fun!) Needless to say, I have already begun work on the Christmas wish list.

I don’t know who would enjoy this magnetic sticks and balls 288 peice set more…me or the kids! (I-must-have-them!)

Jolene

Jolene enjoys writing, sharing and connecting with other like-minded women online – it also gives her the perfect excuse to ignore Mount-Washmore until it threatens to bury her family in an avalanche of Skylander T-shirts and Frozen Pyjama pants. (No one ever knows where the matching top is!) Likes: Reading, cooking, sketching, dancing (preferably with a Sav Blanc in one hand), social media, and sitting down on a toilet seat that one of her children hasn’t dripped, splashed or sprayed on. Dislikes: Writing pretentious crap about herself in online bio’s and refereeing arguments amongst her offspring.
