Miranda Kerr Reveals Her Split With Orlando Bloom Left Her Battling Depression
Miranda Kerr is now happily engaged to Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel, but the Aussie model found herself in a dark place three years ago after her 2013 split from ex-husband Orlando Bloom. In a new interview with Elle Canada, Miranda opens up about battling depression following the end of her marriage.
“When Orlando and I separated, I actually fell into a really bad depression,” the 33 year old told the mag. “I never understood the depth of that feeling or the reality of that because I was naturally a very happy person.”
Miranda was married to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 39, for three years. She revealed that she found her way out of her depression by learning that “every thought you have affects your reality and only you have control of your mind.”
The pair now amicably co-parent their 5-year-old son, Flynn.
“The most important thing is that when he has his time with me, we have quality time together, and when he’s with his dad, he has quality time with him,” Kerr told the magazine of her son. “And it works out really well because I book in my photo shoots for the time he’s with his dad, and the rest of the time I just get to be a mom.”
Her split from Bloom, who is now dating Katy Perry, ultimately taught her a valuable lesson about inner strength, the model said.
“I have this philosophy that we should all be like willow trees — people think that in a big storm, the oak is the strongest tree, but it’s actually the willow tree because it’s very, very flexible,” Kerr told the magazine while explaining her belief in the power of being flexible. “What I have found is that everything you need, all of the answers are deep inside of you,” she concluded. “Sit with yourself, take a few breaths and get close to your spirit.”
