Coles Supermarkets Put Up Incorrect Australian Flag
A Brisbane Coles store has been forced to pull down Australian flags that had the incorrect image of the Southern Cross on them. The flags had been put up in preparation for Australia Day.
In a statement issued on Monday, Coles said the banners which featured a reversed Southern Cross and an upside down Union Jack were bought from another retailer.
The dodgy flags were promptly pulled down after the error was pointed out to staff members by a customer who posted it to the Coles Facebook page.
‘The stars are the wrong way around ya dingus,’ the customer, Tómas, wrote.
‘Whoops! Thanks for bringing this to our attention,’ Coles responded.
They have since been replaced with the correct flags- just in time for Australia Day!
Woolworths recently had it’s own Australiana trouble when it was seen selling merchandise featuring a map of Australia minus one small detail – Tasmania!
Tasmanians called the mistake ‘offensive’ and ‘cruel’ and were not impressed by the exclusion from the map featuring an Australian flag.
A Tasmanian resident said the island state ‘should be on the map’.
‘We’re all one country aren’t we?’ she added.
Woolworths said it was in the process of withdrawing the product from supermarket shelves.
