Lamington Hot Cross Buns are Here and They are Every Bit as Awesome as They Sound!

If you’ve ever laid in bed in the dead of night, desperate trying to sleep, when your brain has asked you “What would happen if a Lamington and a Hot Cross Bun had a baby?’, today is shaping up to be your lucky day, my friend. Behold, the baked perfection that is created when the two Aussie icons come together in one sweet treat!

Apparently, the mash-up of the iconic Aussie treat, the Lamington and the traditional hot cross bun follows customer research which revealed 54 per cent of customers surveyed said they’d love to eat a lamington-flavoured bun. And quite frankly, Australia needs more people like that!

The Lamington Flavoured Hot Cross Buns retail at Coles for $3.50 for a pack of 4.

Using the unique flavour profile of the Australian lamington, the limited edition Coles Lamington Hot Cross Buns are made with chocolate, studded with milk chocolate chips, toasted shaved coconut chunks and bursts of soft raspberry jellies. We recommend serving them toasted, slathered in butter…or cold…whatever floats your boat!

We know Australians love traditional products that have a nostalgic pull but with a modern-day twist,” Coles Senior Category Manager Freddie Hancock explains “and we think we’ve got a winner here with our new lamington hot cross buns just in time for Australia Day.”

“We’re always listening to customer feedback to determine new product launches, and it’s important for us to have some fun with flavours and shake up the hot cross bun market to give customers something they’ve never had before, but ultimately it has to taste great.

“We’ve spent months fine-tuning the recipe to make sure we have the perfect flavour profile of a lamington in a hot cross bun using its traditional pairing of chocolate, coconut and raspberry.”

And a fine job they have done too! They are available from today at more than 700 Coles stores across the country, but we wouldn’t be surprised if these babies fly off the shelves in record time! Not a Lavington fan? We can also vouch for the apple cinnamon hot cross bun combo! Heaven!

The apple and cinnamon hot cross bun are divine – $3.50 for a pack of 6.

What’s your favourite type of Hot Cross Bun? What flavour combo would you like them to develop next?

  1. The cross on Hot Cross Bums is a symbol of the cross of Sacrifice of Life of Jesus Christ on Good Friday.
They should make the new buns without the cross if they are an Australia Day promotion.
