Bride Insists on Having a “Lights Out” Wedding to Honour Her Blind Parents Despite Obvious Perils
A woman has decided to honour her blind parents by having a “lights out” wedding reception lit only by glow stick bracelets and to her surprise, was informed that this was, in fact, a terrible idea.
Sharing her exciting wedding plans on the internet, the 27-year-old bride explained that her whole wedding will be held in the dark. Inspired by a restaurant scene in the movie About Time, she enthusiastically mused that her guests could wear textured garments and use their other senses to experience the romantic occasion.
Apparently, her husband-to-be could not care less about the event and is happy to go along with whatever hare-brained vision his fiance dreams up.
When questioned as to potential trip hazards or elderly relatives falling over, the woman was quick to explain that there would “literally be staff wearing night-vision goggles monitoring every table to ensure everyone’s safety, and so that if anyone needs help or guidance, they will provide it.” She added that there will be over 200 guests and that glow sticks should provide enough ambient light that people could vaguely see their way about safely.
She then added that the entire point of her concept was to push her guests out of their comfort zone as she believes that enjoying something “shouldn’t be based on sight”.
The bride was still adamant about hosting a lights out wedding even when presented with a list of potential dangers of such an event.
Things like:
- someone is definitely going to get hurt, trip over something or fall
- most venues would refuse the concept due to liability concerns
- someone might silently choke on their food
- someone might eat an allergen that they could not see in their food
- children could get lost within minutes
- there is a real chance of sexual assault occurring in the dark
- it would be easy for someone to slip drugs into people’s drinks
- theft may be an issue in the dark with handbags and purses unattended
- some people have anxiety and fear of the dark
Honestly, the idea of 200 people stumbling about in an unlit reception centre is a hideous idea for a wedding.
I wouldn’t go, would you?
