Hairstylist Says She’s Perfectly Justified In Charging Client $1,950 For Cut And Colour

Hairstylist Says She’s Perfectly Justified In Charging Client $1,950 For Cut And Colour

Being a woman is definitely expensive these days but can anyone justify spending nearly $2,000 for a cut and colour? This stylist can and does. She charges $150 an hour for her colour service with some clients needing 13 hours of work on their hair! What do you think? Crazy prices or fair enough?

Hairstylist Jasmine Policarpo is under fire after sharing a TikTokvideo saying she charged one of her clients $1,950 for a recent cut and color change. The stylist prefaces the clip by saying: “I did not think my last post was going to make so many people mad with how much I charge, but I think this one’s going to make you madder.”

For the hair service, Policarpo, who works in Riverside, California, turns a brunette into a blonde over the course of a couple of days. Speaking to Newsweek she says:  “I enjoy showing both stylists and clients that it is possible to achieve the transformations I create if you’re willing to pay and willing to sit for a while.”

Her client begins with mousy brown hair and by the end of the transformation has ashy blonde waves. And while the service took hours to do it also cost a helluva lot of money. Policarpo’s captions reveal she charged the woman $150 an hour for a process that took 13 hours, billing her nearly $2,000 in total.

“My prices are determined on the end goal and the starting point of the hair,” she told Newsweek. “Of course they cover my products and tools, but so much more than that. I am servicing these women in a way…. Most of them have never been serviced before.”

As she predicted, commenters went crazy at her video calling out the exorbitant price. “The new iPhone cost less,” one pointed out.

“Could easily be done in 5-7 hours,” one noted.

“I got the same and even better for 300,” another said.

While some couldn’t believe how sloppy her work was criticising Policarpo for spilling bleach on the woman’s dress and ruining it. “2,000 and you still ruined her shirt,” one wrote.

Policarpo responded to the spilt bleach comment saying the client wasn’t upset. “The foils were heavy and she was pregnant. There was a lot of moving. But she was completely cool about it,” she wrote.

“To my fellow stylists who criticise me, I would say…know your worth,” she told Newsweek. “If you are creating transformation that will last, will be less damaging to the hair and that is worth the price tag…you too deserve to get paid what I charge.”

The finished result.

There were also several commenters who came to Policarpo’s defense, praising her work and saying she basically went from black to white for her client, “okay but her hair is basically white now so it makes sense,” one wrote.

What do you think? Is the price justified for this service? Would you pay that much? And what happens in 3 weeks when you have root regrowth!!
