Polly Waffle Is Set To Return To Our Shelves Earlier Than Expected Thanks To Coronavirus!

It’s been more than a decade since the humble Polly Waffle graced our shelves. Now thanks to Coronavirus we may see the marshmallow treat returning sooner than expected!

The Polly Waffle, for those who are unaware is an iconic Australian chocolate bar. It is a waffle wafer tube filled with marshmallow and coated in compound chocolate. It was invented in 1947 but in 2009 Nestle discontinued the Polly Waffle due to poor sales. In 2019, Adelaide confectioner Robern Menz signed a deal with Nestlé to produce the Polly Waffle, a year after purchasing the rights to produce the Violet Crumble, also from Nestlé.

Due to coronavirus, the federal government is injecting almost $50 million into manufacturing projects to create new jobs during the pandemic. One of those who will benefit is Robert Menz who will receive $1 million to establish a Polly Waffle production line.

Not only do we get our Polly Waffle back, but the incentive is expected to create over 38 jobs. Industry Minister Karen Andrews said the public funding injection couldn’t come at a better time. “As we face the coronavirus pandemic and look to come out the other side stronger, this investment will be more critical than ever,” she said.

Who’s excited by this news? The Polly Waffle may not be the prettiest chocolate bar but it’s one of the tastiest! And who remembers the classic slogan? MMMM…crunch….ahhh!
