Serial Killers, Scams & Scandals: My Latest Podcast Obsessions

When you listen to as many podcasts as me there was always going to be a part 2 of my top podcasts! While it does lean towards crime there are some other interesting genres in there plus a list of some of the short series I have binged recently.
Bros & Shows
Ever wondered what it would be like to have the Bravo shows recapped by a couple of sports commentators? Well Steel and Shooter cover all the reality shows and discuss key characters like they would sports stars key plays
Big Mad True Crime
Heather Ashley gets big mad over true crime and we love it. Heather gets straight into the story and calls out the perpetrators for the scum that they are – although she finds wonderfully new descriptive words each episode. From famous crime cases to ones who haven’t heard from check this one out.
Crime Writers On
A podcast hosted by true crime authors discussing the latest documentary or podcase and breaking down whether it’s worth the time. Combining husband and wife team Rebecca Lavoie & Kevin Flynn with Toby Ball and Lara Bricker the differing views on the latest true crime offerings is a good indication on what to tune into.
You Can’t Make This Up
Above’s Rebecca Lavoie hosts this podcast interviewing the makers and producers of the latest documentaries and how they went about putting them together. Recently they spoke with the creators of Netflix’s latest series Bad Influencer the bad side of Kid – influencing
American Criminal
Host Jeremy Schwartz has one of those fabulous story telling voices that you can easily listen to a 4 ep series on one of the many identities covered. From gangsters to con artists, you’ll recognise some characters like John Gotti while others will be new like the thief who stole babies, Doris Payne.
History Daily
I feel like this series makes me smarter as each day Lindsay Graham highlights a key moment in history on that date. Lindsay is the host of other favourite podcasts from our first list! Yesterday I learnt about the 1992 Los Angeles Riots while the day before was Muhammad Ali refuses to be u=inducted into the US Army.
Dark Hollywood
Covering the stalker files, Case closed, Hollywood 911, Hollywood homicides and scandals this is where all the dark underbelly stories exist. Scandals like Lindsay Lohan, Stalker Files such as David Letterman and Case closed cases like Bob Crane.
Trashy Divorces
Alicia and Stacie take a comedic look at the trashiest divorces across pop culture, history, and politics. Serial offenders are extra roasted plus the longer you listen the more ‘rabbit holes’ you will go down. Check out their latest episode on RHOBH newbie and superstar Jennifer Tilley.
Criminal
Named as best podcast of 2023 by the New York Times Phoebe Judge looks at all type of criminality. Looking at criminals or people who have been wronged, Phoebe’s storytelling is addictive. Starting stories like this, ‘Last year, a committee of state lawmakers in Texas issued a subpoena for a man on death row to testify four days after he was scheduled to be executed.’
Life and Crimes with Andrew Rule
Sunday Herald Sun columnist Andrew Rule looks at the colourful life of Australian gangland figures. Being the journalist behind Australian True Crime, Andrew’s knowledge provides an insightful look on the past identities.
Anatomy of Murder
This is the dissection of true crime like a tragic puzzle. Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi homicide prosecutor and Former Deputy Sheriff Scott Weinberger have over 250 investigations in this series and with their backgrounds provide key insight.
Criminology
Hosts Mike Ferguson and Mike Morford take a deep dive into the most famous cases in the annals of crime. The conversationalist style between the two hosts makes this an easy listen.
Australian True Crime
If we think nothing happens in our own backyard then think again! Meshel Laurie takes her true crime obsession and teams up with experts, writers, victims and investigators to look into the towns and suburbs of Australia and the true crime that lies within.
