Coffee drinkers everywhere can now rejoice! Cold-brew coffee now comes in a goon bag and it’s the perfect drink for the upcoming warmer months. If you’re anything like me, then you don’t actually start to behave like a human being until that first cup of liquid gold hits your mouth. Coffee drinkers understand that it’s more than just a beverage, it’s our life line. It’s what gets us through the day until it’s an acceptable time to drink wine! Just kidding. Actually no, deadly serious.
Coffee is a serious business and we all know that one bad coffee can totally ruin the rest of your day. I remember one time actually throwing a latte in the bin because the only thing about it that resembled coffee was the fact that it was a liquid!
With so many different types of coffees and blends out there today it’s easy to feel a bit bamboozled! But one thing you need to know is that cold-brew coffee is the way to go for an instant cold hit of caffeine. Cold-brew coffee involves steeping coffee in cold water for an extended period of time. The coffee ends up sweet and strong, without the bitterness that often happens through the heating process.
Darlo Coffee Co. which is crafted and brewed in Darlinghurst, is now making delicious cold-brew coffee available by the box (like cask wine).
The brains behind this venture are Sydney born brothers Ben and Erol Salcinovic.
Trying to find a point of difference with their product they came up with serving the cold-brew in the much loved Aussie “goon-bag” form. This keeps the coffee fresh and makes it easily accessible at home and especially the office.
“Cafes are popular and busy,” says Ben, “so we wanted to bring good coffee to Sydney offices. It’s been years in the making. It took quite some time to get the right consistency and to find the right taste.”
“It sounds so simple, really, just coffee and cold water. But there are so many little variables. And we think we’ve nailed it. hopefully!” he laughs. “Even non-coffee drinkers have been liking it! It’s so easy to drink – add a bit of milk or ice and that’s it.”
The coffee is great value, with each two-litre box of concentrated coffee getting you around 30 to 40 serves. It’s super versatile too. Other than drinking it by the glass with milk or ice, the coffee has been a popular addition to shakes, cocktails and desserts. “Because the coffee is naturally sweet you don’t have to add a lot of sugar. When you use espresso coffee it can be quite acidic because of the heat. That’s where cold-brew coffee really shines.”
